What to Wear

Our sessions take place outdoors in all weather conditions, so please dress appropriately. We recommend wearing layers for warmth and flexibility, along with long-sleeved tops, long trousers, and closed-toe shoes to help keep everyone comfortable and protected. On puddle days don't forget the waterproofs and sunny days don't forget the sun hat!

Forest School in a nutshell...

The FSA has 6 core principles:

Forest School is a (1) long-term approach, giving learners time to explore the seasons, experience change, and build resilience. (2) Leaders continuously observe and adapt sessions based on the group’s needs and interests. (3) In a natural setting, learners connect with nature and take ownership of their experience, which supports (4) holistic growth. Sessions are shaped around individual development and group interests, encouraging a strong sense of (5) community and respect for others. Practitioners commit to ongoing professional development and create thoughtful session plans. (6) Risk is embraced as a valuable part of learning, with learners supported in making choices that match their environment and wellbeing.

Who's Running Things at WVFS?

"Hello I'm Emma, I was first introduced to Forest School through parent-and-toddler sessions I attended with my child. From that experience, I was drawn to its ethos to learning and its connection with the natural world. Inspired by what I saw, I began my own Forest School journey. Over the past eight years, I’ve studied, worked alongside experienced practitioners, and gained hands-on experience in a variety of settings. I’m now a Level 3 qualified Forest School Leader and a Level 3 Playworker. With a strong understanding of the value of play and nature in children's learning and development, I feel confident in delivering high-quality Forest School sessions and am excited to take this next step into establishing my practice."
